a beautiful tragedy

so....for those of you who haven't heard yet....two weeks ago yesterday....i rear-ended a red Ford F-150.  this was somewhat bad news at the time...but i thought to myself..."self, at least you now will get the front of your car fixed (the front of my car was previously messed up a little - a long story).  anyway....so my car was towed to Alamo Paint & Body on DeZavala.

at first estimate....they thought the damage would cost close to $7,000.  this amount was about $2,500 away from being able to total the vehicle.  now there is something you should all know.  when i purchased this vehicle - a 2003 Acura CL-S....i was not in my right mind.  it was somewhat of an impulse buy.  and after having the car for about a year and a half...i have put about 60,000 miles on the vehicle (130,000 are on the car right now).  so, as you can imagine....i currently owe more than the car is actually worth.

so...this past friday...i found out some good news....Alamo Paint and Body found $4,000 worth of extra damage done to the vehicle after they took it apart and searched for extra problems.  so...on friday i received a phone call from Farmer's Insurance letting me know that they decided to total my Acura.  for some...this would be terrible news...but for me....i was sooooooo excited!!!  since ashley and i are headed to chicago in 3 months....we were already looking to find a different vehicle for us before we make the long road trip.

since i owed more to the loan company than what the car was actually worth....i would now have to pay three-five thousand more to finish paying the loan.  but i was ok with doing that, i was just happy to get the acura out of my sight.

here's where the really exciting news comes.....yesterday i went to go test-drive a vehicle that ashley and i are looking in to...and while talking to the car salesman...he asked me an excellent question.  he asked me if i had purchased GAP Insurance on my Acura when i bought it?  i had never thought about that throughout this whole process.  i tried to remember...and i thought i had.  so after dealing with the car salesman....i called Honda of Greeley - where i bought the car - and asked them if i purchased GAP Insurance....and do you know what....I DID!!!!!!

for those of you who do not know....GAP Insurance pays the difference between what my insurance will pay for my car after being totaled and what i still owe on the vehicle.  so.....i do not have to worry about paying off the rest of my loan.

that is such a blessing.  i have always claimed that everything that happens....happens for a reason....but sometimes i believe that more than others.

a year and a half ago....i was in two car accidents while working for Pepsi....and because of that (long story)....i had the chance to meet my wife...ashley.

now....i total my car....and am able to save money before ashley and i head to chicago.

thank you Jesus.
